Capturing a level 8 NPC

(Disclaimer:  this is JoMama way.  Other ways can be found in the following links.  Additionally, I hope any readers will comment with their methods of ‘capping an 8’.)

All about npcs

In your royals quest line (the king or queen quests) once you have captured all the levels of valleys, you will receive the quest to capture (attack until you own) a level 8 NPC.

  • Before you start this, you must make sure you have an open city slot.  Check here to see if you do (you can only have as many cities as your title allows).
  • You also want the highest level hero you have for the break.  If you do not have a hero over a level 50, I wouldn’t attempt it.  Remember, heroes only command a percentage of troops, based on their level.
  • You should at least have the researches complete:  Archery – lvl 7, Military Tradition – level 7, Horseback Riding – 5
  • You also need to have at least a level 8 or 9 rally spot and feasting hall (with all the slots in the feasting hall filled.  Remove your mayor, so he can attack as well.
  • And finally, you need a level 8 NPC right by your attacking city/cities (no more than 2 miles away).

Now you need to use these items  (located on the first page of your items)

  1.  Penicillin (to heal more soldiers)
  2.  War Horn (to increase your attack)
  3.  Corselet (to help your defense)

Now it is time to begin your attacks.

  1.  Break – use a war ensign and send a full wave warriors (from a level 9 rally spot this is 112,500)
  2. 30 sec later, send 50k warriors
  3. 30 sec after that send 50k warriors
  4. Now your loyalty waves begin.  Send 10-20k warrior waves every 1-2 minutes (as close as you can get to 1 min is best).  Send from as many cities as you can.  As your heroes return, send them right back out.  It will take 40-45 waves before loyalty is 0.

The reason your city needs to be so close to the NPC is because you are sending your waves repeatedly.  There must never be more than 2 minutes between attacks, or the troops in the NPC will begin to regenerate.

You want to watch your reports, to keep an eye on loyalty.  It should be dropping by 2 every attack.  Once loyalty reaches 0, the city becomes yours!  Rename it, and start tearing down those cottages!

1. ROYAL QUEST LINE

Ah, those pesky quests.  Some folks follow them religiously, others don’t pay them a bit of attention.  On your main account, particularly if you do not use a bot, the Royal Quest is all important though.  This gives you a king (if your account is female) or queen (if your account is male).  This royal person is a level 1, with political, attack and intelligence attributes of 85 each.  Additionally, your royal is totally loyal to you, and can never be lost, no matter what.  It does not take a space in the feasting hall, so you can have 11 heroes there.  If you do not use a bob and get a legendary hero, or capture a historic hero, this is the most important hero you will have.  That is why it is the first quest line we will discuss.  Unless there is an Evony promotion going on, this will be the first quest on the page.  Following are the steps you must follow to get your royal:

  • Prestige reaches 1,000
  • Town Hall reaches level 3
  • Town Hall reaches level 4, Feasting Hall reaches level 4
  • Town Hall reaches level 5
  • Conquer a level 6 valley, Barracks reach level 5
  • Title reaches Baron
  • Establish 3 cities
  • Town Hall reaches level 9
  • Conquer a level 8 valley
  • Conquer a level 10 valley
  • Conquer a level 8 NPC
  • Conquer a level 10 NPC

Once you capture your level 10 NPC, your royal personage will show up in your items, in the chest.  Just click to use it, in your main city.  If you use a bot, that city tab will turn green.

And that is all there is to it!  If you are an avid player, it should take a couple weeks.  More casual, and you should have it within a month.  Returning players can usually accomplish it the first week, by capturing a level 9 NPC with warriors, to speed up the level 9 town hall.  In the next post, we will look at the other quests.

CHEAT SHEET

Even after playing for 5 years, I still forget things like how many archers to send to a level 6 valley, or if archery 8, hbr 3 work, so I created a cheat sheet.  I just got tired of running to the guides several times a day, so I printed this up and keep it by the computer.  It is in a spread sheet, and WordPress won’t let me upload it here, so I have put it in drive, and you can find it here.  I hope this helps you!

3) INNS

The Inn is used to recruit Heroes. Increasing the level of Inn allows for more Heroes of higher level to be available. The quality of available Heroes varies.

Essentially you want to end up with 9 or 10 heroes with base attributes over 65, but don’t expect this right away.  Even with a level 10 inn, what you can usually expect is a 45.  I like to keep my inns until I have a full complement of high ranked heroes.  We will discuss what heroes are used for in the post 4) Feasting Hall.

Once you have a full feasting hall, you can remove your inn and replace it with a barrack.

4) FEASTING HALL

The Feasting Hall is the residence of the heroes. You can check the status of heroes, upgrade stats, give rewards, and dismiss them. There must be vacancies in the hall if you want to hire a hero. There must also be a vacancy if you capture a hero during combat. A captured Hero can either be Persuaded to join you (same cost as hiring in the Inn) or Released. Also it is a good idea to keep a Hero slot open in case either one of your cities is about to be lost and you want to save them, or one of your cities has been devastated/plundered and cannot pay the Heroes from City Tax, or you capture a good hero.

Rename Button:  You can change the name of your heroes with this button.  I particularly like to change the names after I have redistributed the attributes, so I remember having done so.

Dismiss Button:  When  Feasting Hall is full but there’s a better Hero in the Inn, you want to dismiss a low attribute hero.

Upgrade Button:  When a hero has accumulated enough experience to go up a level, you will use this, Experience can be gained by:

  1. Appointing a Hero to be Mayor – continuous trickle feed
  2. Attacking, either npcs or pvps
  3. Applying an Item via the green ‘plus’ sign – instantaneous
    • Anabasis (+1,000 experience)
    • Epitome of Military Science (+10,000)
    • On War (+100,000)

Redistribute Button:  If you have enough holy water, you can ‘redistribute’ the attributes – for instance, using this might take away 20 points from political that you can give to attack.

Reward Button:  Rewards can alter Hero Stats temporarily or Loyalty permanently. A 15 minute cool-down is enforced between all types of reward. There are three kinds of Rewards:

  • Gold: 100 gold for each level of a Hero buys 5 loyalty points.
Seek independent financial advice before trying this with a high level Hero.
  • Items:  Each Item gives a 25% increase in one stat for 7 days.

Save Button:  Changes need to be saved before leaving this window or they are lost.

2) COTTAGES

Cottages offer shelter to citizens, and increase a city’s population limit. Cottages are an essential part of Evony, because they increase your “idle population”, allowing you to build more troops and resource fields.  Now you may often see a negative population, but this is nothing to worry about.  If you are using a bot, it will be taken care of automatically.  If you are playing live, you can use this trick to increase the population to fill your barracks:

Click on your town hall, and change the production to 0 for all resources.  Then open your tax, and just click on it (you do not need to change it).  Presto!  You will have 100% idle population.  Do not forget to put the production back to 100, and click on tax again, so it will revert.  In a few hours, your population will regenerate, and you can do it again.  This way you can keep your barracks full for days.

1) TOWN HALL

TOWN HALL

The Town Hall is the administrative center the city. Here, players modify Production, Tax Rate, and use Comfort and Levy. Each upgrade of a city’s Town Hall increases the number of valleys a player can conquer. Upgrading a Town Hall also increases a city’s resource fields by 3. Every city begins with a Level One Town Hall.

Caution: Upgrading a Town Hall to level 5 while under beginners protection will remove beginners protection, placing you at the mercy of stronger players while you are still building up.If you level up your Town Hall the 5 minutes speed-up will be reduced to 4 minutes.

2. Beginning to Play

There is a trick to starting Evony, and achieving a 3rd level title in 15 minutes instead of 3 or more days.  You can find this on youtube, Baronet in 15 Minutes.  I heartily recommend this to anyone with access to facebook and email.

  • Create 2 emails, one with your game name (such as JoMamaEvony) and one with a name you will remember to delete later (like NotJoEvony).  You can use servers like gmail, yahoo mail, outlook, dotmail, and mail.com.
  • Create a facebook account with the the game name email.
  • Go to Evony through facebook (search facebook for Evony: game, and go to that page.  Like it, and scroll down slightly.  On the left you will find a link to go to evony; click this.
  • At Evony, choose ‘Newcomer? Click here to play’.  81dca0805cd6df558b96adb6fad8a665
  • Choose ‘Skip Tutorial, I’m an Evony master’   a69143e435c30bf9c275c3bfddcff9f3
  • Now it will ask for a name, use the name you want to keep, choose gender, and a picture.  Evony will save this.
  • Click on one of the squares and choose build a cottage.  Click speedup, and it will finish the building for free.  (At this point, most of your buildings can be finished immediately for free – if they have under 5 minutes build time)
  • Click on the cottage, and choose upgrade.  Clicking on speedup will again finish it for free.
  • Click on another square and choose build inn.  Continue to click on speedup, the game will warn you if it is not free.
  • Choose build rally spot.
  • Open the quests tab where it is blinking red, and complete all ready quests.
  • In the quests, click like for ‘be an evonian’
  • Build a feasting hall
  • Build a market place (this is not free; use a beginners guidelines)
  • Open items (located on the lower left side of screen), and in the middle tab, open all the packages except the Lord’s Package.  At the time of writing, Evony is offering a Crystal package; definitely open this, and then open the 10,000,000 of a random resource; this is invaluable.
  • Use your amulet
  • Turn in all your current quests
  • On the upper right of the screen, click on City which takes you to the resource fields.  Build 1 farm, 1 sawmill, 1 stone quarry, and 1 iron mine
  • Go back to the Town view and build one barrack.
  • Turn in all current quests.
  • In the town view, click on the Town Hall.  Click on production rate, and change them all to 100%.  Turn in the quest.
  • In the town hall, click on tax rate and change it to 20%.  Turn in the quest.
  • In the town hall, click on rename city, and give your city a name.  Turn in the quest.
  • Click on your picture on the lower left side.  Click on flag, and write something there; it can be 4 letters. Turn in the quest.
  • Go to the market, and choose to sell 1 resource.  Turn in the quest.
  • Go to the market, and choose to buy 1 resource.  Turn in the quest.
  • Upgrade the town hall to level 2.  Use speed ups to do this.
  • Mail a random member (you can just say quest)
  • Speak in the world chat channel (bottom leaf on the left side of the area in which you type) (again, you can just say quest)
  • Build an embassy
  • Hire a hero from the inn (look for a high political statistic)
  • Make that hero mayor in the feasting hall
  • Turn in quests
  • Build an embassy
  • If you know a good starter alliance, apply to it, or ask for invitations in wc.
  • Turn in your quests
  • Speak in alliance chat (second from top tab in the area in which you type) once you have joined
  • Build your quarry to level 2
  • Build your iron mine to level 3 (use speed ups)
  • Build a forge to level 2 (use speed ups)
  • Build a workshop
  • Build your walls to level 2 (use 2 beginners speedups)
  • Build your town hall to level 3 (use a primary speedup)
  • Open the Lord’s Package
  • Open the Junior Medals Package
  • Turn in your quests and close Evony
  • Reopen Evony, do not go through facebook.  It will offer your last game, choose to start another game.
  • Skip the tutorial, and choose a new name – one you will remember to delete.
  • Build one cottage, to make sure it saves.  Close Evony. Open your new facebook account
  • Open Evony with your fake email.  Click on “Link your account”
  • Evony will offer you two choices to link.  Make sure you choose the first game, the one you spent all the time making.
  • When you enter the game, you should have a whole new set of packages to open, and you should now have enough medals to get promoted to baronet.  Congratulations!

Next post will discuss how to build your first and second cities.

So, What is Evony anyhow?

Let me start with what Evony isn’t, because based on what I see in world chat, a lot of people don’t understand the basic concepts.

  1. Evony is not Call of Duty.  The alliance is all important in Evony, not just something you use to achieve immediate goals:
  2. Evony is not Farmville.  People say this all the time, though the meaning may be unclear.  Basically, don’t fall so much in love with your troops counts that you don’t use them.  You are making them to use the in war; they are going to die.
  3. Evony is not an empire building or world building game.  You do need to build cities, but as a means to an end – to make and house troops, to do research, to upgrade equipment.  Don’t worry about perfect cities.  You just want the requisite buildings to do the job they are intended for.  See the post on city building, if you are unsure about this.
  4. While there are some lone wolf players out there, the majority of players are in an alliance, and need to respect and work with that alliance to achieve goals.  So don’t endanger your alliance!  You would do this by smack talking in world chat – being an ass will get your alliance declared on really quickly.
  5.  The goals of most alliances are first to secure the state – taking the capital city, then the historic cities throughout.  As it grows, it also involves running other alliances out of state.  Eventually, it will mean moving to other states, and clearing them of other alliances.  Do not jump the gun.  Don’t go attacking alliance members before you clear it with leadership.  You may well be putting a spike in the overall plans for the alliance.
  6. You may find that you don’t agree with the goals of your alliance.  If you have been a decent member that doesn’t cause problems, it is quite possible your leadership will help you find another alliance.  If you are not an alliance jumper, and don’t bad mouth your alliance, it is also quite possible that another alliance will take you in and offer you more of the kind of game you like to play.  If you get a reputation however, your chances are greatly reduced.  You get a reputation by being mouthy in wc, or by alliance jumping, to name a couple ways.
  • Evony is not a dating site.  This is generally not a huge problem, but in every server I have played on, at least one player has joined our alliance with no interest in playing the game, except insofar as it furthers their social interaction.  Teenage girls join for the ‘thrill’ of flirting with older men.  They are easy to spot – they whisper men constantly, they drop the names of powerful male players to show their closeness – and often deliberately stir conflict in an alliance to enjoy the drama.  It is best to remove them as soon as possible.  Less common are the perverts, and they are easy enough to avoid by using the block function ingame, and/or reporting them.

So, what IS Evony?  It is a strategical war game.  Your goal is to build an army as big as possible, and help your alliance to achieve its goals.  To be a really good Evony player, you need to read guides (and there are many), ask questions, listen and watch everything.  It does take some intelligence, and the willingness to learn.  No matter what Evony may say, it is not a game you can learn in 5 minutes.  I have been playing over 6 years, and I still learn things every day.  But there is a real satisfaction when you capture your first npc, colonize your first player, win a battle, defend your city. . . and an added bonus is that you may make friends you will keep for a long time.

If you are still interested, the next posts will concern the basics of play.

Medal Farming

Valleys are need throughout the game, but particularly at the beginning, when you are farming for medals to get promotions.  Later you will want to conquer level 10 valleys, to increase your production of resources.

There is no absolute rule as to where medals are located.  The valleys you search may yield nothing for days, or a high level medal might be found in a low level spot.  The following are a general guide as to where they can usually be found (You will find more about level 10 npcs in another post):

From Weebly
The best method to farm medals is to pick 1 valley and continually attack that particular valley over and over again using the take and abandon method spacing your attacks out about every 10 seconds. It may take you over 100 attacks on a valley before you get even 1 medal but dont loose heart or give up.
Cross Medals:
1. Attack any level 1 valley with 50 archers and 1 scout.
2. Attack any level 2 valley with 100 archers and 1 scout.

Justice Medals:
1. Attack any level 10 NPC with at least 90,000 archers and a few thousand warriors, pikemen, and swordsmen. Do this at your own risk, and only do it if your hero’s attack is very high.
